GIANT DESERT HAIRY SCORPION
Species name:
Hadrurus arizonensis
Description:
The giant desert hairy scorpion is the largest scorpion in North America, ranging up to a length of 14 cm (5.5 inches). Its size allows it to feed on other small scorpions and other preys such as lizards and frogs. It has lobster- like pincers and a body which is yellow with a dark top. The size of the scorpion does not correspond to the potency of its venom. It resembles a honey bee's sting. But an allergic reaction to the venom can be fatal, leading to difficulty in breathing and prolonged muscle pain.
